THE WOMAN BEHIND THE BRAND

Maria Bush started sewing at twelve. She was a quiet, stuttering girl from a small village in Siberia — an A-student, never the popular one. Words were hard. Clothing was not.

Through fabric, she found her language. Through silhouette, she found her voice.

At sixteen, Maria could not look at herself in the mirror. She did not believe she had the right to take up space. Clothing did not fix this from the outside. It gave her something more important — a way in. A way to feel beautiful from the inside. And that internal feeling began to show on the outside.

Twelve years. Three countries. Italy, the Czech Republic, the United States. An economics degree she earned in Prague but did not follow. Twenty-two years of cutting, draping, and sewing — self-taught, in her own hands.

She started Bush Design for the girl she used to be. And for every woman who is ready to stop hiding.

For two decades, fashion taught women to blend in. To dress appropriately. To not stand out too much. The result: closets full of clothing nobody remembers — including the women who wore it.
